I Used To Be, And Now....
by Nicolette Gascon
I used to be the grass
growing endlessly in time,
but now I am a tree;
offering shelter from the wind.
I used to be a flower
smiling at the shining sun,
but now I am a being;
giving life and love and faith.
I used to be a feather
floating helplessly on the breeze,
but now I am a rock;
standing hard and firm and strong.
I talk to the singing waves of water
paying my respects and wishing them
good day.
My heart is like the dancing sun,
flowing with the wind.
When I close my eyes
I see a sight
unknown to any other.
I see a bird flying in a purple sky
and resting in the shimmering sun.
Even though the day is done
my heart is full of joy.
I soon will see the glittering moon
smile at her darkened world.
The stars are my teachers
and from them I learn much.
Now I understand the mystery of my home;
its grace
its warmth
and why she is alone.
